Position Description:
The Environmental Services Department is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the County’s water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection, solid waste management and wastewater treatment facilities and associated infrastructure.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Waste Management and the Manager, Water and Wastewater Compliance, and Project Manager Preventative Maintenance the incumbent will:
- Assist staff with various job duties and projects relating to these functions
- Provide assistance with the review of engineering drawings for new developments and capital reconstruction projects
- Update the existing and creating new process flow diagrams for the County’s water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Review sanitary sewer video inspection reports, analyzing bacteriological and chemical sample results
- Assist with updates to County’s GIS asset management system for water and wastewater infrastructure
- Creation of various educational materials
- Provide assistance to the delivery of the Waste Management and Waste Reduction Programs
- Undertake tasks relative to waste reduction programs, research waste management methods, attend and assist with the coordination of HHW events, compile statistics, monitor program progress, and complete data analysis on past and current programs
- Assist with the design and updating of promotional material for waste management, i.e. brochures, website, collection calendar
- Complete a curbside set out study and curbside audit of material
- Review and develop internal County recycling programs, i.e. toner cartridge and battery recycling
- Assist with residential complaints and questions regarding Waste Reduction Programs, composters throughout Norfolk County
- Assist with minor maintenance and/or special tasks at County waste management facilities
- Special projects as assigned
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs
Requirements
Qualifications:
- University or college student enrolled in an environmental related discipline, i.e., Civil or Environmental Engineering course (or related field), Environmental Studies, Geography
- Valid Class G2 Driver’s License
- Computer expertise with preference given to students with advanced knowledge in programs such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office (Excel and Visio)
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Good time management, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills
- Experience in general operation of office equipment, i.e. fax, photocopier, etc.
Note:
May require weekend work.
Employment is conditional upon: attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
Applicants must submit a criminal record check (dated within the last 3 months) from their local police service for approval prior to commencing employment.

Duration:
The duration of this contract will be approximately 4 months. Applicants are expected to fulfill the entire contract period commencing April 30, 2025 until August 29, 2025.
