MAINTENACE OPERATIONS LABOURER

Position Summary:
The Long Point Region Conservation Authority is seeking a self-motivated individual for the position of Maintenance Operations Labourer to fill a seasonal contract. Reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, the Maintenance Operations Labourer is responsible for the ongoing maintenance at all LPRCA day-use parkettes/conservation areas/tracts and assisting the Central Workshop team with maintenance and special projects. The position involves groundskeeping, brush removal, fence building, sanitation, and equipment operation and maintenance.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s licence with clean abstract (minimum “G” class)
  • Knowledge of operating heavy equipment (e.g. Tractor, Backhoe, post hole auger)
  • Experience operating lawn tractors, utility vehicles and vehicles with landscaping trailers
  • Experience with groundskeeping equipment
  • Able to lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to work independently and within a team environment
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS
  • A negative Criminal Records and Judicial Matters check (CRJMC) is required
  • Basic welding, carpentry, and plumbing skills an asset
  • Working At Heights certified (or willingness to attain)
  • Chainsaw Certification an asset (or willingness to attain)
  • Valid DZ Ontario Driver’s licence an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification an asset
Responsibilities:
  • Perform all lawn and maintenance duties, including operation of a chainsaw and fellingtrees in all LPRCA parkettes and Conservation Areas
  • Operate small motorized equipment such as weed trimmer, chainsaws, pole saws, etc.
  • Operate industrial mowers and utility vehicles
  • Grade gravel parking lots and maintain walking trails in Conservation Areas.
  • Install, repair, and clear brush from fencing
  • Install, repair, and keep clear gate systems and signage for all LPRCA owned tracts andConservation Areas.
  • Build and repair picnic tables, walking bridges, and fencing
  • Move equipment from the Central Workshop to various conservation areas and projectsites
  • Keep accurate records for all equipment used (mileage, hours, etc.)
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner ensuring PPE is worn at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Location/Working Conditions:
  • Will be starting and ending each day at the Central Workshop in Waterford
  • Hours of work: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday
  • Outdoor work environments in all conditions
  • All successful applicants must possess their own Green Patch CSA approved safetyboots, be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and with all outdoor flora andfauna
  • Available to work the duration of the season.
  • Some heavy lifting is required.

  • Starting Date: March 10, 2025
  • Ending Date: December 12, 2025
