The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority invites applications for the position of Project Engineer (Permanent, Full Time):

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority’s (UTRCA) mission statement is Inspiring a Healthy Environment. The 17 municipalities within the Upper Thames River watershed appoint representatives to the UTRCA’s Board of Directors who represent the local urban and rural communities, deciding policies and programs that will lead to a healthy watershed. Our programs and services focus on five key areas:

  • Providing natural spaces and recreational opportunities;

The Upper Thames River watershed encompasses an area of 3,421 square kilometers and is mainly rural but includes the urban centres of London, Stratford, and Woodstock. The UTRCA serves a total population of approximately 593,700 residents.

UTRCA Conservation Areas provide outdoor recreational opportunities that aim to educate and promote conservation messages to a large audience in an effort to improve the watershed’s natural environment

Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for the management of maintenance and capital projects for the Water and Erosion Control Structures that are owned and / or managed by the UTRCA under agreement with member municipalities with the goal to protect life and property, all while promoting a healthy watershed ecosystem.

The Project Engineer is also responsible to participate in the operation of the UTRCA’s Flood Forecasting and Warning System and to provide technical support to other functions within the Water & Information Management Unit and the UTRCA.  This position is required to be on call from time to time to undertake duties under flood or other emergency situations and respond to emergency calls beyond regular business hours.

Education
  • A Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in Engineering, specializing in Civil or Water Resources. 
  • A member in good standing, or eligible for membership with the Professional Engineers of Ontario within 1 year is required.
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License.  
Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Three (3) years’ of applied experience in water resources projects including:
  • construction/maintenance of water & erosion control structures;
  • computer modelling of hydraulic and hydrologic systems;
  • report preparation;
  • knowledge of control structures and reservoirs or maintenance of capital infrastructure.
  • A thorough knowledge of computer software packages, particularly with various different hydraulic and hydrology models programs.
  • Previous supervisory experience leading, mentoring and coaching a team;
  • Excellent project management and time management skills; 
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, as well as other database and information management software;
  • Strong skills to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with diverse stakeholder groups.
Compensation and Other Information
  • Grade 8: $43.06 to $52.40 per hour;
  • Full time, 35 hours per week;
  • Comprehensive Group Benefits, Pension Plan (OMERS) and Vacation package;
  • Free access to UTRCA Conservation Areas (Fanshawe, Pittock and Wildwood).
