WATER RESOURCE TECHNICIAN

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering and Infrastructure the Water Resources Technician is a 12-month contract position with the possibility of extension. The Water Resource Technician will assist and support engineering staff with the facilitation of grant funded projects and studies related to LPRCA infrastructure, hydrology studies, and flood hazard mapping.

The ideal candidate is hard-working, highly organized and knowledgeable about water/environmental management principles and technologies. Strong networking, communications, and leadership skills are also required. The Water Resource Technician must be resourceful, pay close attention to detail, and possess an exceptional ability to work well independently and with a team.

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited University/College with a degree/diploma specializing Water Resources, Civil or, Environmental Engineering.
  • Eligible for registration in PEO or Certified Engineering Technician.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of hydrology, computer modeling, surveying, and construction practices and processes.
  • Proficient in hydrologic and hydraulic computer models (HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS).
  • Proficient in geographic information systems and software (ArcGIS and QGIS).
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical and fluvial/coastal geomorphology disciplines is an asset.
  • Knowledge of current water/environmental management principles, technologies, legislation.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and display initiative and a high level of self-motivation.
  • Demonstrated communication (written & oral), interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • A negative Criminal Records and Judicial Matters check (CRJMC) is required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities:
  • Project management: supporting capital infrastructure projects, dam safety reviews, Class Environmental Assessments, and construction oversight.
  • Maintain and develop floodplain and hazardous land mapping and information.
  • Gather and analyze Authority data for internal staff and external consultants.
  • Liaise with consultants on the various projects and studies.
  • Review and analyze consultant modeling and reports supporting their findings.
  • Support and maintain the GIS database.
  • Participate on external committees related to projects and studies.
  • Travel for meetings and field work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Location/Working Conditions:
  • Tillsonburg with some travel.
  • 35-hour work week (Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.).
  • Extra hours may be required to meet deadlines or attend meetings and/or special events.
