Facilities Management is responsible for the planning, development, engineering, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western’s campus community. FM departments include the AVP’s office, Facilities Development & Engineering, Power Plant, Business Operations, Sustainability, Building Services, Facilities Operations and Parking & Visitor Services. Responsibilities
The Project Manager (“PM”) will be accountable to manage a variety of facilities construction and renovation projects for the University of Western Ontario (“Western”) on behalf of Facilities Management (“FM”), specifically Facilities Development and Engineering (“FDE”). The PM will use their expertise in all areas of project implementation, in collaboration with colleagues, clients, contributors, and partners. Overall, the PM is responsible to lead the planning, management, coordination, financial control, and risk control of assigned projects by defining deliverables, metrics, identifying resource requirements, managing project roles, meeting training needs, providing customer satisfaction, and reporting to ensure the quality of project deliverables.
Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma in Engineering, Architecture, or Interior Design OR
- Certificate of Qualification as recognized by Skilled Trades Ontario
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, or relevant discipline is preferred
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng), Registered Architect, or Registered Interior Designer and/or NCIDQ Interior Design Certification preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is preferred
Experience:
- 10 years of project management experience, successfully managing multiple large projects
- Experience in a large, complex, institutional environment is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, guidelines, and regulations
- Project management skills to align projects with strategic goals and operational objectives, ensure team roles are clear, milestones are communicated, and deadlines are met
- Organizational skills to manage multiple activities/projects
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of techniques for planning, managing and coordinating projects that involve a variety of parties
- Ability to handle diverse situations, multiple and complex projects and rapidly changing priorities
- Knowledge of common project obstacles and necessary controls and contingency plans that will help address them
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skills
- Sound judgment and decision making skills
- Strong business acumen with an ability to influence, motivate and inspire with or without positional authority
- Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
- Professional manner, tact, diplomacy, sensitivity, and discretion in dealing with various parties and colleagues, including solid negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills
- Communication skills with the ability to converse with, write reports for, and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization
- Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions
- Proven ability to take initiative and in depth knowledge of how to champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation
- Strong customer service skills and ability to understand and translate customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to meet or exceed expectations
- Self-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for quality
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
