                                                                            AUDIOLOGIST

POSITION TITLE: Audiologist (0.6 FTE permanent)
SALARY RANGE: $64,167 - $87,642
DATE OF VACANCY: As soon as possible

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Audiologist is responsible for providing educational audiology services to students with hearing impairments and central auditory processing disorders. Using an educational model of service delivery, the Audiologist manages a multi-grade, multi-school caseload with travel between schools. The Audiologist is a member of a multi-disciplinary team providing consultation to classroom teachers, teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing and Speech Language Pathologists working with students who are deaf and hard of hearing.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaises with community audiologists regarding assessment results, recommendations, treatment and management issues.
  • Provides support for students with auditory hearing devices.
  • Tracks Auditory Processing Disorders (APD) equipment requests and maintains wait lists.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, school staffs and outside agencies with regard to APD waiting lists and equipment issues.
  •  Provides consultation to school staffs regarding classroom acoustics and auditory issues.
  • Monitors, troubleshoots and provides technical assistance for auditory listening devices, including FM systems.
  •  Provide Special Equipment Allowance (SEA) documentation of student progress in relation to APD equipment and for ordering auditory listening devices, including FM systems for deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Consults, collaborates with and provide support to classroom and itinerant teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Recommends intervention programs based on hearing test results.
  • Contributes as a committee member to decisions made by the APD committee.
  • Attends department and team meetings. • Conducts in-service sessions for teachers, parents, and support staff.
  • Provides awareness programs to students (e.g. hearing loss, hearing conservation, etc.)
  • Interprets results of hearing and APD assessments to parents and staff.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Completion of a Master’s degree in Audiology or equivalent and current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario.
