Digital Content Specialist

Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 28,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, as well as students from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. With a dedicated staff of more than 2,900, Grand Erie is committed to learning, leading and inspiring. 

The Digital Content Specialist will report to the Senior Manager of Communications and Community Relations and maintain, enhance, and optimize Grand Erie's web presence, which includes 72 school websites and a staff portal.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all content and day-to-day operations of the Board and school websites using the content-management systems.
  • Plans, develops and implements internal and external website delivery solutions by collaborating with internal and external partners on implementable solutions that support valuable and usable content.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all website requests and offers timely resolutions.
  • Provides support to schools, administrators, Board staff and departments with the goal of improving communication efforts between the Board, schools, employees, families and community partners.
  • Regularly audit web pages and maintain an editorial calendar and workflow to ensure timely website content creation and updating of content, as required.
  • Provide expertise in website and print AODA requirements.
  • Liaise between the Communications and IT departments and various Board and school administrators to meet communication goals, brand/web guidelines, and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage the content governance guidelines (style guide) for tone, style, and voice of all content across the Board's website,
  • Develop and execute content strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives, including content writing, curation, editing, planning, and research.
  • Develop and refine website structures to optimize navigation and user experience.
  • Analyze user behaviour through analytics tools to identify areas for improvement and implement data-driven solutions.
  • Develops training modules and provides ongoing training support to school staff responsible for updating and maintaining school websites.
  • Monitor and implement best practices for web accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) to meet AODA compliance standards.
  • Implement SEO best practices to improve website visibility, ranking, and user engagement.


Qualifications:
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in public relations, communications, digital marketing, web design or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience in web content management, digital marketing communications, and content strategy.
  • Superior written, editorial and workflow skills with the ability to successfully multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Savvy customer service skills to understand client needs.
  • Strong knowledge of web content management systems (CMS) and experience with content editing tools (experience with platforms like Sitefinity platforms is preferred).
  • Must have experience adding and updating content via drag-and-drop, WYSIWYG interfaces, and optimizing images for web.
  • Strong working knowledge of AODA and WCAG 2.1 AA.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Press (CP) Style Guide.
  • Solid understanding of SEO principles, web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics), and web performance optimization strategies.
  • Experience in providing training and support for non-technical users in content management.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting issues.

Assets:
  • Experience working in the education sector or public institutions.
  • Familiarity with responsive web design and mobile optimization strategies.
  • Proficiency in software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and other software as required.
  • Knowledge of web programming, including knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML, XSL Web.
     
Job Specifications
Hours of Work 35 hours per week
Rate of Pay Hiring Range $ 71,308 to $ 78,601
Salary Range $ 71,308 to $ 81,032 (pending review)

Eligible for OMERS pension plan
Flexible summer schedule.
Opportunity for remote/hybrid work model for some positions.
